ILOG JViews Gantt 8.1
Released in November, 2007, ILOG JViews Gantt 8.1 provides a new Program Evaluation Review Technique (PERT) view, a comprehensive new demo, new performance enhancements, and more. ILOG JViews Gantt 8.1 requires Java Platform, Standard Edition version 5.0 or later.
New PERT view
The new PERT view uses ILOG JViews Diagrammer to display the activity graph of dependencies in which activities are represented as nodes and end-to-start constraints are represented as links. A valid ILOG JViews Diagrammer license is required to access this feature.

New comprehensive demo
The full-featured, multi-view Gantt demo shows the six views supported by ILOG JViews Gantt 8.1 in a single application: Gantt view, calendar view, resource usage view, task sheet, resource sheet, and PERT diagram. The demo comes with source code, so application developers can use it as a starting point for building a comprehensive user interface for a scheduling application.

Performance enhancements
ILOG JViews Gantt 8.1 provides the following performance enhancements:
- Improved styling
ILOG JViews Gantt 8.1 provides performance enhancements to Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). The time it takes to render 10,000 complex objects, for example, has been reduced from 1.3 seconds to under 0.9 seconds—approximately 50 percent faster. Further enhancements have been made to CSS execution and expression evaluation.
- Enhanced base level drawing operations
Many base level drawing operations have been enhanced. ILOG JViews Gantt 8.1 allows faster selection of objects—especially when displaying large sets of data, faster scrolling (up to ten times faster with large data sets), smoother animation (up to four times faster) of moving objects, and highly improved link drawing.
- Faster applet-based deployment
The number of roundtrips to the server upon startup has been substantially reduced by approximately 25 to 50 percent when using an applet, because of improved BeanInfo and resource bundle loading.
Other improvements
ILOG JViews Gantt 8.1 provides several other enhancements, including:
- The ability to create activities
A new sample demonstrates how to create user-define activities, such as vacation days.

- The ability to create new renderers
A new sample shows how to programmatically create composite graphic-based activity renderers.
- New interactors
ILOG JViews Gantt 8.1 has enhanced usability with:
- A new interactor, to quickly expand or callapse the Gantt sheet divider
- A time indicator, to follow the pointer for visual feedback when desired
- A new function to scroll to a given time indicator
Previous Release
ILOG JViews Gantt 8.0
ILOG JViews Gantt 8.0 was released in December, 2006. This version offers enhancements to Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (Ajax) thin client support, portlet support, and a new benchmark demo. Other improvements include a search function and special time indicators.
Improved Ajax thin client Gantt displays
With the release of ILOG JViews Gantt 7.5 in May 2006, ILOG introduced a new generation of advanced Web displays that leveraged Ajax concepts. ILOG JViews Gantt 8.0 has enhanced its thin client support, adding a new selection mechanism and the ability to interactively edit the properties of activities, portlet support, and a new benchmark demo. Other improvements include a search function and special time indicators.
Portlet support
ILOG JViews Gantt 8.0 includes an integrated application programming interface (API) with portlet containers, allowing ILOG JViews Gantt developers to deploy within portals.
Note: This new feature requires the use of portlet containers that support the JSR 168 reference implementation, such as Pluto. An integration example, as well as a complete Pluto installation are included with the software.
Portals are popular because they allow browser displays to mix information from a variety of sources. Displays can be configured by end users to show their preferred information, and can include both textual and graphical information. Because ILOG JViews 8.0 supports this feature, Web developers can make any JViews display—a chart, a diagram or a schedule—viewable as a portlet inside a portal.

Other Improvements
ILOG JViews Gantt 8.0 includes other features designed that address a number of users’ needs. New samples included with the software illustrate these features.
Other improvements include:
- A new benchmark demo, designed to allow UI developers to compare the performance of the Gantt software development kit (SDK) with a variety of design choices and problem sizes
- A sophisticated search function that searches the entire data model for activities that match the search criteria
- New time indicator displays, for the display of important dates
