Alcatel Greatly Enhances Network Management Product Front-End with ILOG Visualization Components

ATLANTA, Georgia - June 8, 1999 - Best-of-breed ILOG (NASDAQ: ILOG) visualization components have been chosen by Alcatel (NYSE: ALA) for its 1320 SONET network management system, ILOG today announced at SUPERCOMM'99 in Atlanta. Alcatel developed the product's graphical user interfaces using ILOG's award- winning graphics components, ILOG Views and ILOG JViews. These advanced components have been widely used by major telecom companies to build highly sophisticated GUIs and thereby significantly cut the time and risk of developing high-end software. ILOG is the world's leading vendor of software components.

"ILOG components have played a major role in Alcatel's 1320 NM graphics development effort," said Jerry Power, director of the1320 NM product line. "Using ILOG Views, we were able to quickly build intuitive and fast representations of the network, taking full advantage of the sophisticated mapping capabilities delivered with the product. The Java version, ILOG JViews, was a very natural choice for us."

Alcatel's 1320 NM is a collection of applications that addresses the network as a whole. It helps network operators analyze the network's health, route traffic and receive real- time data about network elements. The 1320 NM Path Manager is a comprehensive, network-level management tool for creating, editing and deleting paths on an end-to-end basis. Using ILOG software components, Alcatel designed powerful GUIs that allow the network management operators to react quickly to alarms in their network while providing a view of the overall network topology. Alcatel's 1320 NM research and development team has realized a significant cut in development time by taking advantage of ILOG components.

"Alcatel was one of the first major telecom companies to be 'powered by ILOG,' first selecting our components in 1994," said Hassan Lasri, director of telecommunications marketing at ILOG. "Since then, Alcatel has developed more than 20 industrial-strength solutions using ILOG products."
