ILOG and Adobe Team to Offer Advanced Business Rule Management for New Adobe
Livecycle Workflow
ILOG JRules Brings Enhanced Agility and Flexibility To Document-centric Workflow Applications
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and PARIS – September 7, 2005 –ILOG® (NASDAQ:
ILOG; Euronext: ILO, ISIN: FR0004042364) today announced that Adobe® and
ILOG will collaborate to offer joint solutions to customers of the new Adobe
LiveCycle™ Workflow 7.0. An agreement between the companies creates a
co-selling alliance for ILOG JRules, a key offering in ILOG’s Business Rule Management Systems (BRMS) product line, and establishes an ongoing
technical collaboration that will demonstrate the value of a BRMS for adding
greater agility for document-centric processes.
Part of the Adobe LiveCycle platform, Adobe LiveCycle Workflow links components
of this platform to enable integrated, automated workflows that connect people,
systems and business processes. ILOG JRules adds flexibility to document-centric
processes by facilitating the creation of documents dynamically, for example,
for contract management where rules would dictate the composition of a contract
or other legal document. ILOG JRules also adds deeper functionality for defining
the policies inside processes, such as defining the individual steps to approve
an insurance claim.
According the agreement, ILOG and Adobe will participate in joint marketing
and co-sell opportunities. The two companies validated a Service Oriented Architecture-based
integration framework that will be made available to their customers and systems
integrator partners. The joint solution targets the financial services, government
and insurance markets.

Enterprise-class BRMS for Multiple Applications and Auditability
ILOG JRules will allow Adobe LiveCycle Workflow customers to build for the
future, by providing an enterprise-class BRMS that supports multiple applications,
tens of thousands of business rules, as well as tools to support the different
users involved in the rule creation and maintenance process, including business
users, systems administrators and developers. For each process, business
users have the option of managing their business rules in three ways: as
if/then/else rules using drop-down menus, or in decision table or decision
tree formats. The Adobe-ILOG integration will leverage the ILOG JRules repository
for providing authoring, versioning, consistency checking, auditing and traceability
of rule changes. Also, the ILOG JRules engine can ensure the scalability
of decision-intensive processes.
Business Rule Management Systems are essential to BPM applications because
they ensure the highest levels of agility and customization for these applications.
Using a BRMS, business policies can be managed separately from the rest of
the application, eliminating the need to make policy changes to a BPM application
through traditional software coding. The resulting solution provides for the
continuous adjustment of processes in response to changing business conditions,
and allows business users to maintain the application, lowering IT maintenance
costs. Currently, more than 50 Global 2000 organizations use ILOG’s BRMS
products in combination with a BPM solution.
