Telenor Enhances Order Fulfillment System with ILOG JRules

Accelerates Delivery Time by 50% as Part of Telenor’s New Order Management Platform

OSLO, Norway – March 2, 2004 – ILOG® (NASDAQ: ILOG; Euronext; ILO, ISIN: FR0004042364), a leading provider of enterprise-class software components and services, today announced that Teleca OSS, a major Swedish telecom system integrator, has selected ILOG JRules™, a key offering in ILOG’s Business Rule Management System product line, for its new fulfillment process automation platform, FLOW 2.0. The new ILOG JRules-based fulfillment system, designed and deployed for Telenor, Norway's largest telecommunications group, is expected to accelerate new service delivery time by up to 50% for Telenor’s customer base in Norway.

ILOG JRules is expected to accelerate delivery time because it will create a single platform for automating decision points across Telenor’s fulfillment workflow while ensuring compliance with customer preferences and contract rules. The new Business Process Management (BPM) rule-based system will also improve operational efficiency by allowing Telenor to capture best practices for order handling and fulfillment into business rules, assuring the reusability of these business rules across Telenor’s IT systems.

Prior to implementing the new BPM system, order provisioning and order management were handled manually, which could lead to errors and inconsistencies. The ILOG JRules-based FLOW 2.0 system streamlines delivery of customer services, helping ensure the associated revenue for Telenor. Also, the new system reduces reliance on human decisions, helping apply changes in Telenor’s internal policies more quickly and consistently.

ILOG JRules further enhances Telenor’s BPM order fulfillment system by providing business users with full visibility of the business logic governing the complex decisions controlling the flow of the delivery process. Through a dedicated web interface, Telenor business users can quickly and easily review and change this business logic without having to wait for the IT department to release the next version of the application. New rules can be deployed at the speed of business change rather than IT release cycles. These rules include those related to eligibility, delivery dates, pricing, promotions, number portability, discounts and incompatibility, but also to connection speeds, service coverage or provisioning.

“ILOG JRules' user-friendly rule creation and edition interface allows our non IT specialists to visualize the decisions made in the fulfillment processes and accordingly make changes to the platform, which means we can quickly respond to changes in our business,” said Nils-Petter Faugli, Project Manager, Telenor Networks. “ILOG JRules' central repository enables our IT team to use the same rules across the overall product delivery process, which fits perfectly into our new component-based, process-oriented architecture.”

ILOG JRules was integrated with the Tibco BPM 2.0 platform being used by Telenor. A bridge connecting ILOG JRules and Tibco BPM 2.0 enables IT developers and business users to directly access the data, rules and workflow that support the business process.
