SNCF Applies Advanced ILOG Visualization to High-Speed Train Supervision

ILOG Views Enables True, Real-Time Monitoring of France's TGV Railway, Increasing Competitiveness and Service Quality

PARIS and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.- May 6, 2003 - ILOG® (NASDAQ: ILOG; EURONEXT SICOVAM: 006673), a leading provider of enterprise-class software components, today announced that SNCF, France's national railway has deployed ILOG visualization tools to enhance passenger safety and customer service for its TGV ("Train Grand Vitesse") high-speed train network. Using ILOG Views™, SNCF operators can monitor the movements of its TGV trains, which run at average top speeds of 300 km/h (186 mph) on more than 750 kilometers of track.

With more than 325 million passengers in 2002 and 182,000 employees, SNCF is one of the largest railroads in the world. The company offers services ranging from the popular Eurostar link between Paris and London, to TGV passenger services and freight and parcel shipping.

Ensuring the safe, on-time arrival of TGV trains requires close, real-time supervision-- SNCF uses ILOG Views to create the visual displays used by system operators as part of the COLT (Coordination Oprationnelle de Ligne TGV) train supervision system. COLT must accurately display the location of its trains simultaneously, while showing the current status of each train and any alarms sent by equipment in the rail system.

The new displays based on ILOG Views provide a more accurate picture of TGV operations, enabling SNCF operators to react quickly to prevent delays and ensure passenger safety. In addition to monitoring train movements and displaying their status in real time, COLT displays scheduling and other resource information used to manage the SNCF system.

"The use of ILOG Views enabled us to create true representations of train location and activity that are a complete departure from those previously used by SNCF," said Paul Jam, COLT project manager at SNCF. "Functionally, it allows us to spot failures and anticipate their consequences. It enables us to be more reactive when incidents occur, more efficient in finding solutions, and overall, achieve net gains in productivity, competitiveness and service quality."

ILOG Views provides the tools needed - including advanced graphics editors and libraries -- to rapidly create and deploy highly intuitive, state-of-the-art user displays for managing valuable and limited resources. Using ILOG visualization tools, developers can reduce the time, cost and risk of developing software applications, while dramatically extending the power and functionality of their software systems. Using ILOG Views, transportation companies maintain a competitive edge through their monitoring and control systems.

SNCF has been using ILOG software for over 13 years. It currently uses ILOG's entire suite of products, including visualization, optimization and business rule technologies, for resource monitoring, train scheduling, and shipping order contracting, helping SNCF employees be more efficient and productive in running the railroad's vast operations.

Other railways that have benefited from ILOG technology include Deutsche Bahn in Germany, MTR in Hong Kong, British Rail in the United Kingdom, and many others through system integrators such as Siemens, Goal Systems and Logica.
